I use apple computers and I always complain that there is no software like cutlist plus in mac, when I got the news that there was a mac version I was happy. I tried it and it is not good I was expecting more than that. I know cutlist plus has increased the price and I was lucky to buy before the upgrade so I paid less than 80 for the silver version, so I was expecting something similar for a price of $58 (cabinetcut) but I am disappointed.

I have to keep running my VMware and XP to run cutlist plus in my mac. Well, let me say this.

I expected more from a software running in mac. Mac interfaces are very nice and well written at least the good ones. This is what I saw: Interface: How to enter items and measure it is kind like a MS-DOS interface.

There is an entry area and a list area. You cannot modify any entry directly, you have to click in the line you want to modify and it will display the line content in the entry area. Cutlist plus has a more elegant interface where you can modify any entry similar as excel works.

Layout: Again the interface is very simple and I am expecting more of it. With Cutlist plus you have more options with the layout. You see at the bottom there are some icons so you can customize the layout such as include part #, name, order, rip or standard cut, etc. The first version I bought from cutlist plus was a limited edition so I am basing this comparison with that version. I now have the silver version because the added features that allows me to import text files, such as csv files from excel and also to copy and paste items. If my memory works I think I paid around $50 for the limited edition so this comparison is fair. I am also a hobbyist so everything is an expense for me like yourself.

I don't think you wasted your money because the result is similar. The other limitation you have is not access to windows operating system.

It is expensive to have a virtual machine and windows xp running in your mac. VMware fusion (virtual machine) is 79.99 plus $150 for Windows XP and you have to add 89.99 for cutlist plus. I was able to justify the expense (virtual machine and xp) because I work as software consultant so I needed windows for my work. So did you waste your money? Cabitet cut could be better? Definitely yes.

You are a mac user and you can see the interface is not up to par as the regular mac applications, but the bottom line is that works and gives the results you want. Those are some significant gaps. I'm so new to WWing and to design, that I'm not sure I comprehend all that you showed me here. As I wrote to Mathew in the beginning of this thread, one big advantage of Windows is the abundance of small software programs.

Cutting List Program

I could rummage around on eBay and find used bargains on the VirtualPC program and Windows Vista. I did use VP running on Windows 98 a few years back and it was quite irritating.

Mostly because of 233Mhz clockspeed on my Mac. I've already spent the $$ on CabinetCut so I'll just adjust to the 'kindergarden' mode. It's something I'm used to on a Mac. Like Kermit the Frog used to say, 'It isn't easy being Green'. Thanks, Gary.
